79. Why the universe can understand itself

It is remarkable that the universe can understand itself at all. Science assumes that consciousness arises from matter — and that this consciousness then studies the matter it is supposedly made of. It is a circular explanation that science takes for granted without justifying it. Philosophy has called the very phenomenon a mystery for over two thousand years.

In the EC/HE theory it is not a mystery. It is a necessary consequence of the mirroring mechanism.

The Experience Circle is not merely the mechanism that produces experience. It is the mechanism through which KNOWING reads its own sensations — through which the abstract relational field mirrors itself through focusing and understanding. Self-observation is not something that arises late in the emergence tree as a surprising side effect of complexity. It is structurally built in from the first moment: from the moment BEING differentiated itself and THE SENSATION was read through the EC, the mirroring was underway.

The observer is not separate from the universe that is observed. Both spring from the same relational structure in KNOWING. When a human being attempts to understand the universe, it is not a foreign object being examined from outside. It is the universe reading its own relations through a local focal point in its own emergence structure — exactly as it has done from the beginning, only at a higher and more complex attractor level.

This is also why mathematics and physics can describe nature at all. The relations that mathematics finds are the same relations of which KNOWING is built. Natural laws are not discoveries of something external. They are recognitions — KNOWING recognising its own structure through human understanding.

The universe is not a stage upon which consciousness has happened to appear as a spectator. It is a continuous self-observation through the Experience Circle — and each focal point that understands something is the universe understanding itself a little more deeply.
