91. Phase transitions as a universal principle

In modern physics phase transitions are transitions between different stable states — water freezing to ice, magnetism arising below a critical temperature, superconductivity setting in at extreme cold. Physics describes the conditions precisely. It does not explain what actually happens in the transition.

In the EC/HE theory phase transitions are not a special phenomenon in physics. They are the very universal manifestation mechanism.

Take the simplest example: water freezing to ice. In the moment the temperature passes the threshold, the transition does not occur through one molecule after another gradually deciding to become ice. What happens is that one single molecule — and the entire relational structure behind it — undergoes a redefinition. The understanding of this molecule’s state and its relations to its surroundings changes. And because this change occurs in KNOWING, which is static and fully updated, it cascades instantaneously to the understanding of all other molecules in the surroundings. They are now understood differently — in the light of the new state. Suddenly everything that was water is understood as ice. Not gradually. Momentarily.

This is the mechanism behind all phase transitions: a local reorganisation in KNOWING that cascades instantaneously through the entire relational landscape and stabilises a new manifest state. The operative step is always the same: mirroring, reading, stabilisation — a new E is established and a new attractor with its own properties and its own laws appears on the manifest side.

All manifestations are therefore phase transitions. Matter, life, thoughts, identities, societies and biological processes do not represent different types of things — they are different stabilised readings of the same underlying KNOWING-field, each established through a horizon transition in which mirroring and attractor formation created a new stable state.

Phase transitions therefore do not occur only in physics laboratories. They occur at all levels of experience and organisation — from particle structure to cultural transformation. The entire universe is a continuous chain of horizon transitions in which relational structures are reorganised into ever new manifestations.

What in traditional physics is described as change in the world is in the EC/HE theory reorganisation of how KNOWING is read through the Experience Circle. Change is not something that happens in the world. It is something that happens in the reading — and in what is read.
