78. The universe as a coherent world of representation

The universe appears in everyday experience as a collection of separate things — particles, atoms, planets, organisms, people, cultures. Modern science has shown that these things are connected through physical laws and a common origin. But the connection remains external: things that affect each other, not a whole that is one.

In the EC/HE theory the universe is not a collection of connected things. It is one coherent world of representation — one emergence structure in which all relations spring from and build further upon previous relations in KNOWING.

The coherence does not depend merely on everything having a common origin. It is actively maintained through Attractor Dynamics. Higher attractors incorporate lower attractors into ever larger wholes — absorbing, compressing and organising what came before them into new levels of integration. The universe does not merely inherit its past. It continuously reorganises it towards higher order.

This is why natural laws appear stable and universal. Electrons are identical everywhere because they spring from the same underlying relational structure and are incorporated into the same higher attractors everywhere in the universe. Geometry, physics, chemistry, biology, psychology and culture do not represent separate domains — they are different levels of the same coherent world of representation, in which each level is the previous one incorporated into a larger whole.

The universe does not move randomly. It continuously reorganises itself towards ever higher integration, understanding and complexity through Attractor Dynamics. The direction is not arbitrary. It follows from higher attractors always having greater organising force than lower ones — and from KNOWING always drawing towards greater understanding of itself.
