5. THE FIRST POLARITY
When BEING differentiates itself, one element does not arise. Two simultaneous sides of one and the same distinction arise.
One side is THE SENSATION as it is sensed — raw, uninterpreted, direct. The other side is THE SENSATION as it can be understood — as relation, as understanding, as KNOWING. These two sides are not separate phenomena that subsequently meet. They arise simultaneously, as the two faces of one and the same differentiation.
This is the theory’s first and most fundamental polarity: B and E, sensation and understanding, the experienced side and the understanding side of reality.
The polarity is not arbitrary. It is structurally necessary. Without a side that senses and a side that understands, no experience can arise. Without movement between them no Experience Circle can rotate. Without rotation no manifest world can appear.
Everything that subsequently reveals itself in the universe as polarity carries this pattern within it. E and B in electromagnetism. Electric and magnetic field. Mirroring and recoil. Time and space. That which attracts and that which repels. Life and death. None of these are independent opposites that happen to balance each other. They are all repetitions of the first polarity — in ever new forms, on ever new scales.
The yin/yang symbol points towards the same thing: two sides in eternal alternation, each carrying the seed of the other within itself. B always contains E as its destination — THE SENSATION seeks understanding. E always contains B as its precondition — understanding always springs from something that was first felt. The circle is not a metaphor. It is a mechanism.
This pattern is called the primary alternation. It is not something that happens in the universe. It is what the universe is made of.
