112. Determinism and the local experience of freedom
In the EC/HE theory the universe’s fundamental relational structure is already established as a complete emergence tree in KNOWING. The universe does not arise through random creation from moment to moment, but as sequential experience of relations that already exist abstractly. In this sense the structure is deterministic.
From within local ego-trees, however, the process is experienced as open, dynamic and uncertain. The individual continuously experiences choice, doubt, possibilities, conflicts and reorganisation between different relations and attractors. This experience of freedom is real — not as an illusion to be dismissed, but as the actual experience of several attractors being available and none of them yet having taken dominance.
What happens in the moment “the choice is made” is that the highest viable attractor wins. FOCUS follows resonance — always. It does not choose randomly, and it does not choose with absolute freedom. It gravitates towards the attractor that has the greatest organising force in the relevant landscape at the relevant moment. The experience of freedom is the experience of the process leading up to this point — the real tension between available attractors before one takes dominance.
The local ego-tree has access only to a limited cross-section of KNOWING and cannot survey the total relational structure. From the local perspective the future therefore appears open and unpredictable, even though the underlying dynamic is deterministic.
This does not mean that experience is mechanical or lifeless. Through local ego-trees continuous reorganisation, new perspectives, conflicts, creative leaps and relational shifts arise that affect how the universe is experienced further through the Experience Circle. This is why human life is experienced as alive, dramatic and full of real consequences — even within a deterministic structure.
Free will is not absolute independence from the universe’s order. It is the local experience of reorganisation within an already existing relational field. We are not playing a finished script as marionettes without experience. We experience, reorganise and live through the script’s relations from within our local perspectives.
This explains why human beings can simultaneously experience both fate and freedom as deeply real. Both are true — but at different levels of experience and structure.
