4. THE SENSATION
The first differentiation is registered immediately by AWARENESS.
This registration is THE SENSATION.
The first quale.
As yet there is no understanding of what is experienced. No concepts, no relations and no KNOWING yet exist. THE SENSATION therefore appears as pure experience without interpretation.
THE SENSATION represents the first difference as it is directly experienced prior to any conceptualisation. It is not understood as change, energy, separation or anything else. All of this belongs to later understandings that have not yet been established. At this point there is only the immediate experience that something is — different from what was before.
The form of THE SENSATION is not arbitrary. The simplest possible oscillation between two poles — the movement of the sine curve — is what focus will subsequently follow. THE SENSATION thus already carries within it the pattern along which all further experience will unfold (see point 7: THE FORM OF THE SENSATION).
This sensation forms the foundation for everything that will later appear as observation, understanding and KNOWING.
