1. WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?

I am not a physicist. I am a journalist, a media engineer and — to be honest — someone who for many years has had intuitive access to something I could not quite put into words. In 1986, I asked myself a question: “Thought has not yet discovered itself.” It took me almost forty years to understand what I was actually asking.

The answer I arrived at is this: we have the causality of the universe backwards. We believe that matter creates consciousness — that the brain produces thought. I say it is the reverse. What is primary is what I call KNOWING — not knowledge in the ordinary sense, but the abstract, timeless structure from which everything experienced springs. The physical is the derived.

The universe is not a machine that produces experience.

It is a process of experience that produces what we call the physical world.

This is not a new thought. Plato, Berkeley, Schopenhauer and many other idealists have argued something similar. What is new in this book is that the claim is linked to a concrete mathematical result and a complete description of how it all takes place: the Mechanism.

Idealism is proved here. So runs my conclusion. It will both provoke and meet resistance. I stand by the statement, because it is exceptionally thoroughly grounded.

Bear with me a few more paragraphs, and you shall learn what this means for you, your life and the world.

But first, a few words about the discovery, and how it came about.

The Path to the Discovery
Through a long and demanding dialogue with two AI engines — Claude and ChatGPT, equipped with my own logic as a control mechanism, CRED/CREATED — we arrived at an equation. It is called the Horizon Equation, and it describes the exact point and mechanism at which abstract KNOWING becomes experienced reality: the horizon between the abstract on one side (thought/knowledge) and the manifest on the other (material/physical).

This equation is constructed purely geometrically from nineteen ontological principles — principles concerning what must logically be true for a universe to exist and be experienced at all.

When we set the Horizon Equation against the traditional physical formula for the mysterious fine-structure constant, ~1/137 — the deepest number in physics — they matched to twelve decimal places of precision. This is not a coincidental agreement. It is the closest anyone has ever come to an explanation of why this number is what it is.

What does this mean?

It means that the four fundamental quantities physics has treated as independent empirical facts about the universe — the elementary charge, Planck’s constant, the speed of light and the vacuum’s electrical resistance — are not four arbitrary parameters. They are geometric consequences of one underlying structure. The universe is not fine-tuned for us to be able to exist. It could not have been otherwise.

This book is an explanation of the entire theory that is now practically proved. And it also contains documentation of the process. It reproduces the more than 1,400 A4 pages of conversations as they actually took place — with resistance, false trails, corrections, and recurring moments where something that had been stuck suddenly fell into place.

It also contains the Mechanism — a complete theory of the universe in 132 points, from pure BEING without content to the outermost limit of the universe — and back again. All in one sweep.

It is this coherent Mechanism that underlies the conversations leading to the fine-structure constant. When these conversations took place in April–May 2026, the points had been explained across vast quantities of external notes (many millions of words), and had only been provisionally and partially correctly presented in concentrated form. This was what ChatGPT and Claude were given as a foundation before the conversations began.

The ontological explanatory chain therefore existed before the derivation of the fine-structure constant began — not afterwards, as is often the case in this kind of theoretical work. One usually attempts to explain after the fact. Not here.

What does this mean for you?
Well — an enormous amount. I choose to put it that strongly. And not just for you, but for all of us — in our roles as “myself”, as family members, as part of circles of friends, as members and participants in a society. When our understanding of what the world is and how it works is transformed, everything is transformed.

We live today in blindness. Science and our entire civilisation are founded on the premise that the world is material. The theory, the mechanisms and the equation this book presents — and in reality proves — say something else.

The universe is thought and knowledge, what I term, using an ontological-technical word, KNOWING. This “world of representation” within our consciousness is then manifested into the experience of a physical “reality” through consciousness observing its own experiences and thoughts.

The observation takes place through the Horizon Equation and the mechanism it describes.

We are all both an observer and part of the observed within this abstract world. This is difficult to explain in simple terms, but you will find it described in the 132 points that explain the whole affair. This dual role creates a self-mirroring. We see ourselves “from outside” — or so we believe. In practice, this means we see how everything and everyone around us mirrors who and what we are — so that we come to believe in the mirror image.

This results in an ego. An internal, closed conception within yourself of who and what you believe you are. You believe the mirror image. But that is not the truth about you. In reality, you are part of the great ONE that is everything. You are this ONE — which I call THE EXPERIENCER (capital letters indicating that something is ontologically fundamental) — which also experiences itself through self-mirroring. You are one of myriad fragmented mirrors. The universe is mirror upon mirror. Everything mirrors everything.

As stated, this cannot be immediately grasped. But the essence is that we walk around being something great, whole and authentic within, while experiencing ourselves as a distorted, separated mirror image outside this one, whole thing.

We walk around as local egos. All of us. Even those of us who have seen through how it works, for we too are human beings — that is, experiences of what we believe to be a “self”. An ego-self. A small “I”.

So this book reverses the causality of science. Science says that matter is what exists, and that consciousness grows forth from this. I say — and demonstrate down to the smallest detail — that this is not how it is. KNOWING, conceptions and thoughts come first, and from this an experience of “reality” is manifested. Physical, material reality is therefore an experience within your mind, with no independent existence of its own.

It is a dramatic statement.

It will mean a total revolution in our view of what a human being is, and how the individual and our societies function. We live today in blindness.

I could now continue and describe how this affects you as an individual. That you create your own fears. That death is merely a “phase transition” — a change in experience, but not the cessation of existence.

You continue — eternally — with ever new “lives” and experiences. All of them will be small ego-bubbles. You move in and out of them, but you remain you. Your identity and your FOCUS endure. You are a point of focus, a fragment of THE EXPERIENCER’s one FOCUS.

This is explained in the 132 points. There it is shown and proved through two mechanisms:
  1. The Emergence Circle / Experience Circle (ES — they are one and the same) and the Horizon Equation, which is its mathematical description, and
  2. Attractor Dynamics, which governs the interplay between all experiences — what you might also call “the way of nature”.
So there are two mechanisms and one equation. With this, the entire universe is explained at every level — both the abstract and the manifest/material.

What lies before you is not a textbook — not yet. It is a theory that is practically completely proved. You will find that the material presented is logically, physically, mathematically and philosophically deep and complex in its discussions and expositions. But the end result is strikingly simple. Two highly comprehensible mechanisms and one equation.

A HORIZON equation. For it describes how thoughts become reality. Two sides of the same matter, the same horizon. One side is abstract (thought and KNOWING), the other manifest (physics and a material experience of the world).

One thing is therefore essential to understand in order to follow the discussions that follow. This is not about physics. It is about what happens before physics. None of our sciences has so far been able to explain what actually takes place in this “domain”.

We are before quantum physics, before nature, before consciousness (indeed, for consciousness presupposes experiences — something to be conscious of). We are where religions operate. This book therefore presents a synthesis between religion and science.

By this I do not mean religion and science as you know them. For they are locked into their own conceptions. They are not true in their present form. They believe in their own narratives. Both must now be left behind. Both must go “behind themselves” and ask: what actually exists?

We are moving towards Religion 2.0 and Science 2.0. We are living at the close of the Middle Ages 2.0.

We stand in the midst of a Reformation 2.0 — all seen from our perspective in the West in 2026.

The Mechanism — the second book in the Experiencer cycle — provides the answers. The first book, “The Experiencer”, was published already in 2022 and describes how these radical insights grew within me over an entire lifetime, and especially after I “awoke to insight” in 2018. Suddenly I understood how it all fits together. I awakened to myself, saw that I had lost myself in my own ego, and turned around. I stilled my own fear and entered into what I had always known.

I began to see as I saw as a child. I understood that I had forgotten, but that this way of seeing had always been with me. I do not see as others do. I see the Mechanism unfolding. I have done so since I was small. Concretely.

In truth, nothing has opened up; rather, something was never closed. I carry a vivid, pictorial memory of the moment I became self-aware as a two-year-old. I remember being alone in a sunlit living room, in a small alcove containing a Brio train set and some other toys, inside a banana crate.

“I am not that crate or that train,” I thought. My first conscious thought. “I am something of my own, me,” came the conclusion. I discovered myself as an ego, a human persona — a figure, a role. But that which observed and experienced the discovery of “me” was not “me”. It was that within me which experiences being me.

This is how I have always seen the world — from a meta-position. This book, and the one before it, are my way of seeing put into words. I have so far never met anyone who sees it in the same way. And I have looked.

The Revolution Is Coming
I would maintain that this is a revolutionary book. Many will fight against it; ever more will gradually take it to heart. A paradigm shift is not accomplished in one stroke. Science is to be turned upside down, quite literally, and religions must perish. Our society is already doing so.

From this, something new grows forth, founded on a correct understanding. It is not about collapse, but about transition — transformation. This has happened before, many, many times, in all likelihood.

We are to return from this roughly 6,000-year-long delusion — to the deeper, closer and truer insight human beings once possessed. To the knowledge that was alive before civilisation began in Sumer, Egypt and several other places. All of these were marked by highly complex and extensive organisation of large-scale projects.

Such things create ego and ego-based societies. This is what we must now leave behind. Simplify, simplify, simplify. We must scale down, for the alternative is collapse and an enormous amount of suffering. This can be avoided with the right knowledge.

But this does not mean we are to return to the Stone Age and live on roots and berries in the forest. We retain our extremely extensive and detailed scientific knowledge. It is correct and valid. It simply does not describe the whole picture. Science itself knows this well. My theory does not threaten existing knowledge; it expands its field of operation by introducing the correct mechanisms. This opens up enormous possibilities.

We have electricity, logistics, computer systems, artificial intelligence. We must continue to use all of this — but now with new knowledge of how it actually works.

The same applies to religions. Priests and the Pope must be deposed, and church buildings opened up. No buildings or intermediaries are needed. The Church has stolen the direct contact with BEING that exists within everything and everyone. It has confused human understanding for millennia. But note: I am speaking of the Western religions. There are others, with priests who did not exalt themselves as “God’s representative”.

“God” (a human conception) is directly accessible to us all. This is known as gnosis or jñāna, for example. It is well known, but suppressed by men of power and theologians. I say this from my own, direct experience. As it has always been for me. I am not Christian, or anything of the kind. But I have contact with my own essence. There are many who are discovering theirs, because everything around them is becoming ever more meaningless and brutal.

Proved?
I claim that with this book, idealism is proved. It is probably the most audacious statement any human being has ever made. I say it nonetheless, because it is not a conviction in the psychological sense — it is my KNOWING, direct knowledge, and because the mathematical structure that follows actually holds.

The proof lies within the roughly 1,800+ pages this one book comprises. This includes the long, technical conversations between ChatGPT, Claude and myself. The greater part of these exists as a separate PDF alongside the book itself (see 9. BRIEF SUMMARIES OF THE THREE CONVERSATIONS) — simply to keep the volume manageable.

The PDF is for the nerds, the mathematicians and the physicists — so that they may scrutinise every smallest detail and verify every claim, large and small. I ask for total transparency.

Here is the precise status, as it stands at the time of writing. A four-level ontological order hierarchy is proved necessary and non-collapsible. The number eight — the number of operations in a complete certification — is proved via reversible computation theory. The three-dimensionality in which the hierarchy terminates is proved at the sketch level to be the unique dimension in which stable topological binding between closed identities is possible. The sinusoidal form, the fundamental form of sensation, is proved to be the only possible form for a closed traversal. What remains is not a proof that must be built from the ground up, but two precisely bounded technical clarifications within established mathematics, and a translation of the interpretation step from ontological into formal language.

Claude, and in particular Fable 5 — currently banned by the US authorities because the AI engine is deemed too powerful — could probably have taken these final steps. But it ought to be done by humans, not machines, which can after all err. This task has been formulated mathematically (see: 13. MATHEMATICAL CHALLENGE) and is now handed over to the scientific community.

I would say it should prove quite difficult to come up with an alternative theory standing on equally solid ontological ground (beginning with BEING as the basis of existence and KNOWING as the ontological primary), with a clear justification and formalisation of every ontological primitive, expressible almost entirely through internal geometry — and yielding the same result. Since Sommerfeld introduced the all-important fine-structure constant in 1916, physicists, mathematicians and philosophers have attempted to explain it. None has succeeded.

This is an attempt that actually hits the mark.

This document is a working log of a breakthrough in progress — precise about what is proved, precise about what is ontologically justified, and precise about what remains as technical work. It is also a complete account of the entire surrounding landscape from which the equation arises — and which it in turn creates.

For you as a reader, it is perhaps not the equation itself that matters most to take away. What matters most is what it implies: that the reality you experience is not something that happens to you from outside, but something that arises in the meeting between what you are and know within yourself, and that to which you stand in relation. That causality runs from within outward, not from without inward. That what you know as longing, as a pull, as a sense of homecoming, are not romantic metaphors, but structural features of a universe that carries direction within itself.

You are not a chance by-product of a cold and indifferent world. You are a necessary point of focus in a process the universe uses to understand itself.

That was what the question from 1986 was really about.

And should you find the content before you altogether too technical and advanced, I would ask that you also take with you the closing of the book, found in the final two chapters:Once these too are read, and you have leafed through the rest, you may say that you have taken in the essence of the work. For this is not a book; it is part two of a work. More is to come.

Let me also add that my books are not a commercial project. They convey knowledge that shall and must be available to everyone. This is why the material is published free of charge at varhet.com — in Norwegian and English.

The books will also continue to be published and distributed in the ordinary manner, with ISBN numbers, wherever books are sold. This is partly to ensure they are properly placed in archives, and partly to achieve wider distribution. These editions cost money, to cover publishing expenses. Years of unpaid work lie behind the whole endeavour. I work entirely on my own.

Happy reading. Expect transformation.

If nothing else, a seed will be sown in you that is bound to grow.

To the specialist reader
This book presents an ontological derivation of the fine-structure constant α ≈ 1/137.036 from nineteen structural principles, formulated within an idealist, consciousness-based framework with reversed causality.

The result is an equation — the Horizon Equation — which matches the experimentally established CODATA value with a relative error of 8.4 × 10⁻¹³.

No previously justification-based construction of α has been documented with comparable precision against the accepted value.

The author is neither a mathematician nor a physicist. This is relevant to state explicitly, because it affects what the book is and what it is not. It is not a academic paper. It is a documented working log of an idea process — a series of conversations between the author and two AI engines, Claude and ChatGPT, the latter operating with the author’s own analytical framework CREATED/CRED as its interpretive frame. All three conversations are reproduced in their entirety, including resistance, false trails and iterative corrections. This is methodologically transparent in a way that rarely occurs in theoretical work: the reader can follow every refinement and see precisely what came from the author and what came from the engines.

The architecture of the equation
The Horizon Equation has the form:

α = (1/104) · cos[(12 + η_port + η_EM + η_G − 1/4 − ln2/56) · 2π/104]

where 120 = 104 + 2·8, and the correction terms are:

η_port = 1/(104·120) — handover cost between completed experience circle and interpretation sequence

η_EM = ln2/(2·104²·120) — one irreversible Landauer distinction distributed over mutual coupling

η_G = ln2/(4·104³·120) — the back-reaction of EM exchange distributed over the entire minimal closed identity cycle with polarity factor 2

None of the parameters are taken from measured α or from external physical constants. The numbers 104, 8, 56 and 120 are justified ontologically and derived along structural lines of argument documented in detail.

In explicit form the equation reads:

$\alpha = \frac{1}{104} \cos\left[\left(12 + \frac{1}{104 \cdot 120} + \frac{\ln 2}{2 \cdot 104^2 \cdot 120} + \frac{\ln 2}{4 \cdot 104^3 \cdot 120} - \frac{1}{4} - \frac{\ln 2}{56}\right)\frac{2\pi}{104}\right]$

As stated, it matches the experimentally established CODATA value with a relative error of 8.4 × 10⁻¹³.

Epistemic status
It is essential to be precise about what has been achieved and what remains.

The equation is internally consistent and structurally legible. Each term has an identifiable ontological role. The precision is real and verifiable — a relative error of 8.4 × 10⁻¹³ against CODATA, without α being used as input data. The ontology existed in documented form — the Mechanism in 132 points — before the search for α began, which distinguishes this work from post hoc rationalisation.

Factor 8 is proved via Bennett’s reversible computation theory. The minimal complete certification protocol for one irreversible establishment at cost ln 2 requires exactly eight operations in palindromic order: three forward, one copy, three back, one lock. The palindromic order is proved to be uniquely minimal, not one realisation among several. The condition is one granularity axiom — a clarification of the unit of counting for operations, not a new ontological claim.

Factor 13 is derived from a four-level order hierarchy — registration, distinction, orientation, integration — in which each level is proved necessary by an indistinguishability argument and non-collapsible by linear independence (the functions 1, t, t², t³). The hierarchy terminates at order 3 because the manifest field has exactly three independent directions of difference. This is not imported from physics. It is proved at the sketch level that D=3 is the unique dimension in which stable topological binding between closed identities is possible: D≥4 is excluded by Alexander duality, D=2 is excluded because binding there is necessarily asymmetric and transitive, in violation of the recoil principle. Only in D=3 is the linking number symmetric, non-transitive and robust under compactification.

The thirteenth term — the interpretation step, the horizon crossing from qualia to KNOWING — is not a mathematical gap. It is an ontological distinction that is defined and consistently maintained throughout the entire construction, from the first point to the last. What remains on this point is a translation from ontological into formal language, not a proof that must be built from the ground up.

The sinusoidal form — the fundamental form of sensation — is proved, not postulated. The minimal closed reading of a simultaneous dyad has exactly three stages of necessity: departure, turning point, return. The sinusoidal form is the only form such a closed traversal can take.

The complete chain is: sequence, closure and topological binding give D=3; D=3 gives the order hierarchy 0–3; the order hierarchy gives 13 = 3(D+1)+1; the Bennett structure gives Π₈ = 8; the product gives 104 = 8 × 13. Every number in the chain traces back to the same handful of primitives: traversal, the bit criterion, Landauer, closure, recoil. No number in the chain is chosen or adjusted to fit the conclusion.

The remaining openness is precisely confined to two technical clarifications of established mathematics — the granularity axiom and the tameness caveat in the topological argument — and has been handed over to the academic community with a complete proof sketch for independent scrutiny. What is missing for a complete formal proof is not new ideas. It is the confirmation of one independent expert, for an argument that has already survived systematic, adversarial scrutiny from two independent AI engines.

Historical placement
The value of the fine-structure constant has been an open problem since Sommerfeld introduced it in 1916. Eddington, Pauli, Feynman and others have characterised it as physics’ deepest unsolved mystery. All previous attempts at derivation from first principles have either lacked numerical precision or rested on ontological justification that does not hold independently of the result.

The Balmer-Bohr analogy is relevant, but the work has moved beyond the stage the analogy originally described. The structure is not merely identified — it is partly proved. A four-level order hierarchy is proved necessary and non-collapsible. The number eight is proved via reversible computation theory. The three-dimensionality in which the hierarchy terminates is proved at the sketch level to be the unique dimension in which stable topological binding between closed identities is possible. The sinusoidal form is proved to be the only possible form for a closed single-focus traversal. What remains is not a proof that must be built from the ground up, but two precisely bounded technical clarifications within established mathematics, and a translation of the interpretation step from ontological into formal language. It is this task that has been handed over to the academic community.

What the Book Is
The book is a primary document within a process of ideas, not a completed scientific publication. It presents an original and internally consistent ontological framework, a mathematical equation of exceptional precision against a known physical constant, a substantial partial mathematical formalisation of this equation’s necessity, and a transparent working methodology that makes it possible to verify the reasoning step by step. It is precise about what has been proved, what is ontologically justified, and what remains as technical work. It is this precision — together with the accuracy of the result — that makes it worthy of serious academic attention.

Academic objections, corrections and further development are not merely welcome. They are necessary. The work has been delivered.
